Hike to Hermit Cave
Join Northfield Mountain staff for a hike to the Hermit’s Cave. From 1867 to 1900, this historical landmark, nestled in the Erving State Forest, was the humble home of John Smith. John was from Scotland and created a peaceful abode surrounded by gardens. Join us to find what remains of this much-visited, local destination. The hike will be a moderately strenuous hike with a steep walk down to the cave entrance. It is a 3.6-mile round trip, which should take approximately 2.5 hours. Hiking poles are recommended for the steep section. Appropriate for teens and adults with an active lifestyle. Reservations are required at www.bookeo.com/northfield to ensure we can contact you in case there is a change or cancellation.
